My First (Hopefully Not the Last) Half-Marathon

I ran my first half marathon on 27-Sep-2026, at the Bengaluru Marathon. I ran with a bunch of my friends, and my sister ran a 10KM run as well. My timing was a little more than I would have liked (2:28:18). But it was fun.

It was too sunny for Bangalore weather, and I think that made the runners sweat more than they would have liked. Till then, I had run 15KM in one go while practicing for the half marathon, and this was my first half marathon. So it went well (or should I say better than expected) till 15KM, but after that I got extremely tired. Fellow runners whom I had overtaken a while ago were overtaking me now. I was trying to make an effort to increase my pace but just couldn’t. So I just started focusing on completing the race. I think I should have run 21KM once or twice before, just to know how I would feel after 15KM. But it’s alright. It was fun overall.

After finishing the race, everyone was trying to find each other more than trying to get their breath back. Everybody’s phones were either about to die or had no network (I do not know why). However, after finally finding each other, we took the much-needed rest and the much-needed photographs (there itself in Kanteerava Stadium). We all wanted to go for lunch, but cabs were not getting booked (again, I don’t know why, maybe because a lot of people were booking at the same time). So we decided to walk (bad decision after a race, I know). We had lunch/brunch at Cafe Morish. Had the usual banter, ate, and headed home.

The day and the race were tiring. But all things said and done, it was a good milestone for a “low IQ, high effort” activity (basically running) that my friends and I (including my sister) started a while ago. Let’s see if I run a marathon next time or try to improve my half marathon timing. Or if I even run at all.

I have attached a few photos from race day.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading and ba-bye.
